Program structure
MASTER’S DEGREE IN ARCHITECTURE AND URBANISM
The Master’s program has a minimum requirement of 24 credits, 6 of which correspond to the Final Thesis. Of the remaining 18 credits, 9 correspond to the required courses (3 in Area 1 and 6 in Area 2). The other 9 credits are obtained from elective courses, which may be chosen from the different lines of research. The master’s student has the right to validate a maximum of 6 credits in courses from other programs, in compliance with the PósARQ Bylaws.
All courses are theoretical and 3 credits (each equivalent to 15 class hours). Theoretical course means addressing contents through lectures, papers and/or complementary research activities.
The workload of the Master’s Thesis is 6 credits, each equivalent to 45 class hours.
The program has a total of 540 hours distributed into 270 (or 18 credits) in courses and 270 hours (or 6 credits) for the Thesis.
It has a minimum duration of 12 months and a maximum of 24 months. Courses are held quarterly and the annual admission selection process takes place at the beginning of each year (with admission in June).
DOCTORAL DEGREE IN ARCHITECTURE AND URBANISM
The Doctoral program has a minimum requirement of 48 credits, 12 of which correspond to the Final Dissertation. Of the remaining 36 credits, 15 correspond to the required courses “Applied Scientific Methodology” (3 credits) and “Pre-Dissertation Seminars” (6 credits). The remaining credits are obtained from elective courses, which may be chosen from the different lines of research. The doctoral student has the right to validate a maximum of 24 credits in courses from other programs, in compliance with the PósARQ Bylaws.
